The Roaring ’20s are coming back to Chapel Hill at the end of October! | North Carolina Special Event Photography
In less than 30 days, the Chapel Hill Public Library Foundation will be celebrating its 20th anniversary and what better way to commemorate the occasion than throwing a Roaring ‘20s soiree!
Get ready for the sweet sounds of jazz, the forbidden tastes of libations, and some high-rollin’ at the gaming tables. Sound like fun? Buy your tickets today to support your Chapel Hill library. You can buy guest tickets here to get in the spirit of gangsters, flappers, and all that glitz! Better yet, register as a host of the event to revel in the Foundation turning 20 and really get into puttin’ on the Ritz!
Do you need a reason to go to the Foundation’s 20th bash? Here are two:
Reason #1: The venue for this year’s event will be at The Carolina Club!
Since its inception in 1993, The Carolina Club on UNC’s campus has been a haven for its members. When you are looking for fine dining, excellent cuisine, or a unique event experience, this is the place to be. (Not to mention their club scene where there is something for everyone.) This is one Club where it really is a home away from home, where members and guests are welcome to enjoy a full calendar of events and membership is open to all (non-alum, this means you, as well!)
Elizabeth Rubio, The Carolina Club’s Private Event Director, also shared her favorite book while growing up:
“My favorite book, was the Laura Ingalls Wilder’s “Little House on the Prairie” series, which I read long before the television show aired. It really sparked by interest in history, and a wider world than my own, since I knew the story was based on a read person about my own age.”
Reason #2: The music will be played by the Street Genie himself, Freddy Greene.
This energetic jazz/funk musician/composer weaves the smooth and mellow sounds of classic Jazz with innovative funk. If you ever have the chance to chat with him, he’ll tell you how he was born into music when he was born in a piccolo joint and how being a street musician was a calling for him. Wondering what he liked to read while growing up? Greene said he loved “science and nature books.”
Look no further than the Foundation’s party to hear the music of the Street Genie.
On a final note, it was Umberto Eco who said, “We live for books,” and it is the Chapel Hill Public Library Foundation that helps to encourage and advocate for those who love – and live for – books. They do this by fundraising to benefit the diverse community of this town, as well as promoting greater awareness of the Library’s valuable resources. What a great reason to celebrate twenty years. Can’t wait to see you there!
